Volcano in Mexico City wakes up

Sleepy time is over! Popocatépetl, or better known as ‘Popo’ erupted over the weekend in Mexico City. The volcano spewed numerous exhalations through Saturday and Sunday, sending vapor, smoke and gas shooting into the sky.

There hasn’t been a major eruption, but Mexico’s Natural Disaster Prevention Center is warning residents to stay alert and to stay at least seven miles away from the volcano’s crater.

Popo’s full-name means ‘Smoking Mountain,’ and it looks like it’s living up to that name.

Residents in the area are just hoping Popo gets sleepy soon!
