Experience News in a New Way
Katy Perry may have kissed a girl and liked it, but there are 1 million moms, at least that’s what they call themselves, who stick their tongues out at girls kissing girls.
Specifically these two in an Urban Outfitters catalog.
The One Million Moms posted an alert on their Web site urging parents to throw out the catalogs before their kids see them, and to demand Urban Outfitters remove the photo and say they’re sorry.
We kinda think that’s not going to happen, given that Urban Outfitters likes this kind of over-the-top promotion.
And besides, maybe this is a way for Richard Haynes, the company CEO, to show he’s not a homophobe after caving in a few years ago to demands that he yank off the shelves shirts that promoted gay marriages.
In the last six months or so, Urban Outfitters has managed to rankle the Navajos, who didn’t like seeing their symbols on panties and flasks, the Irish, who probably would have preferred the flask over the tee (just kidding), and the Jews, for t-shirts with something sewn onto the pocket that looks pretty close to the yellow Star of David the Nazis made Jews wear during World War II.
You may not like the subject matter, but you have to admit that it’s pretty good marketing. Look at the free advertising we’re giving them with this story.
