Experience News in a New Way
You know the economy is not in good shape when even undocumented immigrants leave town. Ay, caramba! The number of Mexican immigrants living illegally in the U.S. has dropped significantly for the first time in four decades as many Mexican workers seeing few job opportunities return to their country.
Net immigration from Mexico has fallen to zero, and perhaps less, says the Pew Hispanic Center. Here’s why: weakened U.S. job and housing construction markets, heightened border enforcement, a rise of deportations, growing dangers associated with illegal border crossings and changing economic conditions in Mexico.
“We’ve done it!” – Anti-immigration folks might say. “Now we are going to fill those few available jobs with American workers”. Good luck with that! Even Alabama is shaking its tough stance on immigration: their farms are suffering from lack of workers. Nobody wants to do the jobs undocumented immigrants usually do.
When we thought we had all the answers on illegal immigration, immigrants themselves are changing the questions. They have no right to do that either!
