Experience News in a New Way
A 43-year-old woman suffered third-degree burns after claiming that the few rocks she collected from a Southern California beach burst into flames in the pocket of her cargo shorts.
The hot rocks looked fairly normal with streaks of green and orange when the woman picked them up from San Clemente Beach and tucked them into her pocket. But things really heated up when she got home and the rocks somehow caught fire, burning the woman.
Her husband was able to pull the burning pants off his wife, but suffered second-degree burns in the process.
Environmental authorities say highly flammable phosphorous on the stones might be to blame, but they also go on to remind people that rocks on the beach don’t normally blow up!
