You know the adage: being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What about the wrong grave in the wrong clothes?
That’s what happened to Mercedes Rodriguez. The 87-year-old woman died in September 2010. Instead of getting her ready for the trek back to Nicaragua for burial, her children say the funeral home, Rose Hill Memorial Park, lost track of her and buried her on site in California.
Her casket was pulled up three days later. That’s when her family realized she was in the wrong casket and in another woman’s clothes. Now her children are trying to right some wrongs. They’ve filed a lawsuit against the funeral home.
The funeral home’s defense? They say they mixed her funeral up with another woman who had the same last name and was about the same age as Mercedes.
