Only in Texas: Cactus vodka

We all know what goes into a James Bond vodka martini. VODKA!

And we all know that you make vodka from potatoes. Why do you think it’s called POTATO JUICE? Duh.

But Nick Spink is making vodka out of prickly pear cactus in San Antonio.  And he’s selling it under the name of Spike Vodka.

“It is the first and only vodka in the world made out of cactus,’ Spink claims.

Spink and his master distiller Rachel Price do their own cactus chopping to get the chunks ready for fermenting, distilling and filtering before bottling and labeling. Oh, yeah, and drinking.

They named their hooch spike because ‘”We’ve been pricked too many times by those thorns.”

But vodka made out of cactus? Do we really need more pricks in the bar?
