New York may decriminalize marijuana

Calling all potheads. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying to decriminalize marijuana. If the bill goes through, getting caught with a small amount of weed will carry a fine instead of a misdemeanor.

‘There is a blatant inconsistency. If you possess marijuana privately it’s a violation, if you show it in public it’s a crime,’ said Governor Cuomo.

More than a dozen other states, like Oregon and Connecticut have already taken the step. It’s meant to prevent unnecessary arrests and create more consistency. But it pleases the pothead constituency too.
