Experience News in a New Way
Here’s one to keep an eye on. The World Health Organization is warning that a new strain of drug-resistant gonorrhea is popping up around the globe. Primarily across the pond in places like Australia, France, Norway, Sweden and the UK and if you think that’s nothing to worry about here in Houston, think again. City health officials say that with a major port and an international population, the spread is just as likely here as it is anywhere.
The problem with gonorrhea is that it’s caused by bacteria. And just like the flu, it can mutate – or adapt – to the antibiotics used to treat it. Which are why old drugs like penicillin are no longer used and new drugs are becoming less effective. So until researchers have the time to study this new “super-strain,” best keep a wrap on things and toss those old excuses out the door. Reducing your number of partners is a good start and using a condom helps too.
But still, abstinence is the best way to prevent becoming infected.
