Experience News in a New Way

Woman’s jaw accidentally removed by dentist, mistaken for cancer

We’ve all experienced a ‘not-so-pleasant’ trip to the dentist. One New Zealand lady, however, is half the patient she was before she went into the University of Otago Dental Hospital, and is now in serious need of a dental do-over.

It seems some butter-fingered pathologist at Medlab Dental accidentally dropped two tissue samples, and mixed them up. So, the 63-year-old woman thought she was going in to have her swollen tooth implant worked on, but instead was mistakenly told she had mouth cancer and, are you ready for this, had the right side of her upper jaw removed!

Dentists also removed bone and blood vessels from her leg to help reconstruct her perfectly-healthy, cancer-free jaw, and now she has trouble walking!

If anyone deserves a visit from the tooth-fairy, it’s this lady!
