Experience News in a New Way
There are plenty of bad teachers out there. So, if you had earned your district’s “Teacher of the Year” award, you’d probably feel like you’re safe, in spite of nationwide school cutbacks. Educator Michelle Apperson learned the hard way that a teacher of the year award, plus nine years of dedication, doesn’t necessarily equal job security.
Michelle, along with thousands of other teachers across the state, was laid off thanks to California’s budget crisis. Her elementary students were so upset they took time to write their teacher goodbye letters.
Now, compare sweet Miss Apperson to 32-year-old John McDaniel. He’s the Colleyville Middle School band director who was named teacher of the year and a few days later was accused of sexting a 15-year-old student! Guess it’s not called the ‘dirty south’ for nothin!!
